GEM-LOC edge laminate countertop trim is the smart way to elevate any countertop or casework installation. Combining a laminate face with solid surface edges in a patented design, GEM-LOC delivers a high-end look without the high-end price, because excellence should be accessible.
Standard flat-lay laminate countertops often show their age through sharp edges and visible seams. GEM-LOC edges were engineered to solve exactly that. Whether you're installing new countertops or refreshing an existing space, these edges create a seamless, sophisticated eased-edge finish that instantly upgrades the feel of any kitchen or bathroom.
You get the durability of solid surface at a fraction of the cost. Installation is straightforward, upkeep is virtually nonexistent, and moisture-resistant, waterproof materials ensure they look as good years from now as they do on day one. Every GEM-LOC product is backed by a 10-year warranty.
Built to Last
Chipped countertop edges are a thing of the past. GEM-LOC's solid surface construction is tougher than standard laminate and can be buffed back to a like-new finish, no regular maintenance required. Choose from a wide range of colors and styles, including all the most popular patterns from Formica® and Wilsonart®, or specify virtually any non-metallic High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) on the market.
Every edge is built on an MR50-rated moisture-resistant MDF substrate that won't warp or swell. Solid surface components use the same durable acrylics found in full countertop installations, bonded with high-strength adhesive. All materials are waterproof and no- or low-VOC.
Dimensions & Shipping
Edge pieces are manufactured 12 feet long, 1 9/16" high, and 1/4" thick. Backsplash caps are 12 feet long, 1 3/8" tall, and 1/4" thick (custom thinning available). For shipping, all 12-foot lengths are cut to 94 3/4" + 47" off-fall and shipped in 8-foot tubes
Three Countertop Edge Profiles
- FB – Flat Back: Smooth profile with no rabbet required. Easy, flexible installation. Build-up recommended.
- TG – Tongue and Groove: Versatile multipurpose design. Works with or without a build-up. Features a rabbet for secure installation; build-up can be added after the edge is in place.
- T – Tongue: Simplified rabbet design. Requires a build-up for structural integrity.
Two Backsplash Cap Profiles
Both profiles scribe seamlessly against any wall:
- BC – Backsplash Cap: Rabbet-guided installation for precision alignment.
- BCF – Backsplash Cap Flat Back: No rabbet required, giving installers maximum flexibility.
What's Inside Every GEM-LOC Edge
The substrate is MR-50 rated moisture-resistant MDF. High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) is glued and pressed to the substrate using high-strength adhesive. The top and bottom edges are finished with strips of solid surface acrylic, the same material used in full countertop fabrication, bonded with high-strength glue. All surfaces and seams are waterproof, and all materials are no- or low-VOC.

Installation Guide
- Applying to an inside corner:
Here’s a trick to use when applying our edges to a countertop with an inside corner. Instead of filing out the inside radius left by the router, use a file to round off the backside of the edge. With a little practice, this process will become just as easy and you will notice better results than with the traditional method. - Around the dishwasher:
To help prevent damage to your edge when installing around the dishwasher, simply apply a bead of silicone sealant to the edge of the dishwasher mounting board, then press the board into the backside of the edge. Next, strike the excess silicone with your finger to create a waterproof seal. - Cold bending:
GEM-LOC can be cold bent, but only in the Flatback (FB) style and when using an acrylic solid surface, such as Corian®. The counter must also be an absolute radius, free of any bumps or flat spots. The Flatback (FB) profile can be successfully bent to an 18″ radius. - Easy way to set edge height:
An easy way to find the approximate height to overlap GEM-LOC edges is to use a piece of masking tape. Put a piece of tape on the countertop deck right in front of the edge. The solid surface element should protrude approx .005-.007 of an inch, or 1 layer of tape, above the decking. - Getting a gloss finish on the solid surface element:
The GEM-LOC corner element comes in a standard matte finish. If a higher sheen is desired, 00 or 000 steel wool quickly brings out a high gloss. This technique can also easily remove small scratches in the solid surfacing. - Keep from scratching the laminate when filing:
One way to keep your laminate scratch-free during the filing process is to use a few wraps of masking tape on the end of the file that will be moving against the countertop. This will make it safe and easy to file your GEM-LOC edge flush with the countertop decking. - Wall impedes routing:
When routing for a TG profile, a wall or obstacle can stop your router short, leaving an unrouted section in the deck. To get around this, simply shave off the excess tongue with a razor knife.8. Glue – more is NOT better: When gluing, run a thin bead 1/4” from the top of the edging and a thin bead 1/4” from the bottom, apply to countertop, tape tightly bottom to top, and remove squeeze out with a damp rag. You want a little squeeze out but using too much glue can cause thick seams, gaps, and even wood swelling.
